View from the TOP... well almost

Passed the ONE month mark!

and yes, still in awe and utter confusion about the organization.

Been reassured that it is one COMPLEX org, so it'll take some time.

Anyhoos, enough about the boring stuff...

Here are some of my jakun pics from the 65th floor of Tower 2 of Petronas Twin towers..
Where Accenture is located (65th & 66th).

And since I'm not based at the main office, but only go there about 3-4 times a month (or more, depending on meetings n such), I'm always mesmerized by the view.

One day, while meeting up with our new Country HR Manager, we stopped our discussion just to watch the rain fall from the skies. It was beautiful. Too bad I didn't snap some shots of that.

Well, here you go.

My makeshift "office" (@ the cafeteria) after meetings on 65th.

My view

The view right in front of me

To my left

The cafeteria counter (where the goodies' at)

Reading corner

Part of the cafeteria (I usually sit on the other side to the left)

Last but certainly not least...

free flow of San Fran coffee all day & night long.
(jeles)

Oh yes, I just recently bought myself a pair of Ipanema thongs/slippers/flip flops.
It was on 50% closing down sale @ a shop in Bangsar Village 2
So I paid only RM18.40 for it!!

That lil FURBALL (on the right) chewed up my RM4 similar Tesco pair.

HAVE A RELAXING SUNDAY!!

End of Week 2

Phewww.....

I'm still ALIVE!!!

Hehe!

Ok la..kidding...it wasn't that bad...

In fact, it wasn't bad at all!!

It was allll GOOOODDD!!

Really.

Anyway, I'm not suppose to blog about my work...its all very hush hush...
*looks around*

Not doing anything illegal la...its just company policy.

Anyhoos, let me talk about my daily life here in KL.

On weekdays...I wake up at 6.30am...ok finee...i ATTEMPT to wake up at 6.30am.
Jeez.

But after the first week of work, I got my groove back and the snooze button became a fond friend (again) :P

So I've gotten my timing sorted. I have to get to the parking lot before 8am as it fills up pretty quick after that. It takes me less than 10mins to get there from my place.

I only have to take the LRT to the next station, so that doesn't take me too long....

After getting off, I take an easy 7-10min walk to my building. I discovered that its really nice and refreshing to have a stroll in the mornings. Its cool, with some breeze (nothing compared to sea breeze, but we'll have to settle).

Its not a chore at all. Its a welcomed change. At least I get SOME exercise. Heh!

I get off work around 6ish or 7ish...depending and by then its not hot anymore, so the walk back to the station is pretty easy too.

On weekends, Max would stay over and we'd do some household chores, like sweep & mop the floor, do the laundry, grocery shopping, go for movies, meet up with friends, shoot some zombies (Left 4 Dead 2 - yea my gaming days are back!), shoot some pool, take my furbabies for walkies, iron clothes, etc.

Yea, its alllll good. I'm loving it!

I love my freedom and all that comes with it.
I'm thankful I have such a wonderful boyfriend who fits into my lifestyle perfectly and also so helpful in countless ways. *smiles*

2010 : Brand New Year, Brand New Life!

Hey!

Whaddya know, every year seems to lead me to a new and exciting journey...(i'm sure it does for you too).

I'm in KL now...waiting to start a new job in a new company.

Been spending wonderfully blissful days with my Loves (Max, Chino & Zara). Life just feels AWESOME!

I never thought I'd enjoy living here in KL, but I guess, when you're with the ones you love...it doesn't really matter where you are.

So far, we've been hitting countless shopping malls and even the night market looking for stuff for my new studio. Max has been so patient and understanding with my peculiar wants and fancies and I appreciate him for the person he is.

He's introduced me to many of his friends and colleagues. Had Christmas eve dinner with his Mom, celebrated Boxing day at Nate (Max's bestie) & Terri's, played Charades. We even got invited to usher in the new year at this guy, Greg's condo at Mont Kiara. We just met him the night before through Max's friend. The panoramic view from the 27th floor of the KL cityline was spectacular! We saw not less than 8 spots where fireworks were being displayed all over KL, even up to Genting Highlands!

It was fun meeting new people. Very different from the way I would have spent my new year's countdown...sleeping at home..haha!

Oh yea, while at a Mamak after the party, I suddenly had baddddd tummy cramps and had to go visit the loo...but I still had the cramps even after going...then I felt a bit nauseous and headed back to the loo for a 2nd round...was a bit whoozy when I stepped into the loo...thought I'd pass out for a second there. When I got back to the table...I was feeling much worse and needed to get home ASAP. I was breaking out in cold sweat. By the time i got home I was ready to top myself. Writhing and moaning in pain for about an hour before the paracetamol kicked in and I could finally breathe and fall asleep.

Was all better this morning and had lunch with Max and Byron at this Dim Sum restaurant in Damansara Jaya. Food was good! Was a bit afraid to have too oily stuff coz my tummy was still a tad sensitive..but it was all good. Nate joined us after lunch and all 4 of us headed to the CC for a round of Left for Dead 2. Must admit..it was hella fun! haha!!

We just came home from a BBQ @ Puchong with Max's colleagues. We prepared and marinated chicken wings and yakitori chicken sticks, which was quite a success..if I may say so.. hahah!

Its been a good start to a new year...(cept for the food poisoning part).

Can't wait to start my new job on Monday!

WISH ME LUCK!!

and

HAVE A BLESSED NEW YEAR!

HeLLo KL!

Packed everything, including my doggies and made my way to KL on 20th Dec.
Max drove of course.

Practically filled my lil car to the brim and headed out at 1pm.
Made 2 stops along the highway for Chino & Zara to go wee-wee but they didn't feel the need to.

Got in at around 5.30pm and headed to Max's friend's place to get his car (which was also filled with my stuff, :D)

Reached my place at around 6ish and moved all my stuff into the studio then headed to Ikea after a quick shower.

Had their meatballs

and a really good salad

and Chicken thigh thingie (in Lemongrass sauce)

Power shopped for the basic necessities like pillows, drinking glasses, food saver containers & spray bottled (to clean up doggie mess). Met up with Max's friends for a drink later then headed back to crash.

Day 1. (Mon, 21st Dec)

Woke up around 10ish, got dressed and headed to TMC (store) @ Lucky Gardens. Had lunch then shopped for cleaning supplies and some food & fruits. Max dropped me home and headed for work while i stayed home n started the big clean up.

The fans took a while to clean as they were covered with prolly 10 yrs of dust & dirt! Next was the windowpanes and the kitchen cabinets. The difference is remarkable!! Mr. Muscle works miracles!!

My bro came over and we went out for dinner with my cousins (Sheena lives here and Wendy was here on holiday with her husband, Andy) @ De Paris in SS2.

Day 2. (Tues, 22nd Dec)

Woke up at around 7.30 am coz Zara started barking at the neighbours who were walking pass my door to go to work. Flipped thru the Ikea catalogue for the millionth time and listed down all the stuff I wanted to get.

As it was still early and not that hot yet, I took Chino & Zara for their walkies around the neighbourhood..well, not far, just up & down the road, coz beyond that is a big road which is too dangerous for us.

Went online for a bit to check my mail and get updated then got down n dirty with the kitchen cabinets again... :P
Scrubbed and scrubbed all morning till Max came to pick me up for lunch. Had the famous Banana leaf rice set @ Bangsar then back home to continue cleaning. Finally finished the kitchen and bathroom and mopping the whole place (ok la its not that big but trust me..it was tiring).

Byron came to pick me up to go for dinner @ Monte's (BSC). I had the Chicken chop, which was awesome! and we had Onion soup, Escargots and Garlic bread (man, it was so filling). Byron had the Black Pepper Chicken. After dinner, we headed to Chawan @ Bangsar to meet up with Timmy (a.k.a. my pet Alien, Stitch). Got home around midnight.

Day 3. (Weds, 23rd Dec)

Slept in till 11.30 (when Byron called) and he came to pick me up @ 12 noon to go for lunch @ Mama's Kitchen with Timmy. Had the Lo shi fun (we call it Bee Tai Bak ok Byron, STOP laughing!) & kailan & chicken in lemon butter sauce & yam basket (too much food!).

Headed to Ikea again for more shopping. Got a food serving tray, wastepaper basket, doggie food bowl, cutlery tray, more pillows (the ones we first got were too soft), wok, chopping board, more drinking glasses, mugs & scissors. Had a drink @ Starbucks. Tried their Toffee Nut Frappucino (nice but a bit too sweet) then headed home.

Yeap..and here I am now...unloaded my goods, wanted to take my furbabies for walkies but it started raining, so we're all stuck indoors.

Need to go get more household stuff from TMC tmr then head to KLCC for some shoe shopping (need closed toe court heels for work) and some Xmas pressies.

Wish me luck!

I finally did the deed

I was tossing and turning and waking up every hour the night before.

My mind just wasn't at ease.

So worried if something, anything would go wrong.

I woke up at around 6.30am and got ready.

Packed my poor unsuspecting baby Zara (yea, she'll always be my baby) into her nice hot pink crate/carrier and headed towards "the other side of the Island".

Yes, it was the day for her spaying surgery.

I should have gotten it done long ago, but I've put it off until now.

She didn't like being in the crate, whined the whole way. Poor baby.

So I put her in the front passanger seat next to me.

I picked up my new colleague from McDonalds in Green Lane and headed towards Pantai Jerejak to HOPE clinic (da vet).

With a very heavy, uneasy heart, I entrusted her to the capable hands of Dr. Joshua Loh.

Went to work feeling all restless and worried and anxious.

The clinic called me at 11.30am to tell me that the surgery went well and that my baby was just coming round from the anaesthesia.

Later that evening, HN called me to let me know she went to "visit" Zara, as she brought her baby Lillybell to Dr Joshua for a checkup as well. Reported that Zara was awake, but didn't respond to her calls. She must have still been in a daze.

Still worried and slept very little that night.
She has never been away from home overnight before.
Would she sleep well?
Would she be scared?

So the next day (Sat) after work (in the afternoon), I set off the pick her up.

I stopped by Tesco to get some babyfood for her in case she doesn't have any appetite to eat her regular dog kibble.

I had to wait for more than an hour before I could see my baby!

There were a few people before me and the Dr. takes quite a while with each furry patient, which is good as it goes to show that he gives them the appropriate attention and care. He is also very clear & detailed in his explaination.

When it was finally my turn, he brought my baby out from the kennel. I saw the strip of tape down her abdomen and my heart lurched. She looked so small and vulnerable in his arms.

When he set her on the counter, she instantly came towards me for a cuddle. Gave me a few little licks on the nose, as if to say, "I missed u Mommy!"

*meltz*

My sweet brave little peanut.

I bought her some Troy's Nutripet High-Energy Vitamin concentrate, just in case she needed some extra nutrition to help recovery.

Troy Nutripet 200g

Troy Nutripet 200g

Description

Troy Nutripet High-Energy Vitamin Concentrate. A palatable high-energy dietary supplement for dogs and cats.

Indications

Troy Nutripet High-Energy Vitamin Concentrate is a highly palatable source of calorie and vitamin supplementation and is recommended for inclusion in the diets of dogs and cats where levels may be low.

Troy Nutripet High-Energy Vitamin Concentrate contains vitamins A, D, E, B1, B2, B6, B12, Nicotinamide, Calcium Pantothenate, Folic Acid, Iron, Manganese, Magnesium and Iodine in a palatable base consisting of fats, proteins and carbohydrates providing approximately 1500 kilojoules of metabolizable energy per 100g.

She also had a microchip inserted.

When we got home, she was quite moody and mopey.

She hardly wanted to eat anything except McVite's Digestive biscuits.

So I fed her as much as she wanted, which was just one biscuit.

Wasn't interested in the baby food or even the canned dog food I bought.

I had to force her to take some of that High-energy vitamin concentrate
(which smells YUMMY to me actually!)

I smeared a bit on her nose and she licked it up.

On Sunday, she still wouldn't eat anything other than the biscuits.
But in the evening, she took a liking to the vitamin concentrate and I let her have a LOT of that.

"When used during convalescence and to stimulate appetite, give 10g (approx. 2 x 10cm strips) daily per 5kg bodyweight. When used as the main source of nutrition, give 15g (approx. 3 x 10cm strips) daily per 5kg bodyweight, or as required."

She's 5.7 kgs, so she needs those 3 strips.

I'm glad to report that as of yesterday, she started eating rice with canned dogfood (after tasting some of my packed economy rice I had for lunch yesterday).
Particularly likes my long beans.

Her appetite is better and she's back to her old spunky self.
Including chewing on poor Chinobu's ears.

Hehe!

I'M IN PAIN

not physical pain, but almost...my heart aches everytime i watch a PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) video or a video footage on animal cruelty.

No, not kids throwing rocks and sticks at the stray dogs or cats in their neighbourhood. They should be taught better. BY their PARENTS!

I'm talking about ADULTS, COMPANIES, INDUSTRIES that knowingly and with full mental capacity to overlook the pain and suffering of animals, ALL FOR THE SAKE OF MAKING MONEY!

IT MAKES ME SICK!

We all know and are aware of the existance of animal cruelty on this planet. Yes, the same planet we call our HOME but don't give two shits about the carbon footprint each and everyone of us is leaving behind. If not for our future generation, but for mother earth, who so lovingly gave us everything we need and more.

Of late, my eyes were opened even more by watching a horrific videoclip posted by a friend in Facebook about the fur trade in China.

After watching the video, I sat there, stunned for a good 5 mins and felt very depressed for a long while after. That last image has been burned into my brain forever.

How can humans be so cruel? Aren't animals living beings too? Do they not feel pain?

We can hear their cries....do we need them to speak our language for us to understand the suffering they're in?

Are those people working in those Fur Farms even HUMAN!?

I know Asia and particularly Malaysia is too hot for us to even think of buying fur products.
Hey, after all we'd probably wish we could shed our own skin just to feel a bit cooler in these hot humid months.

You must also have heard about the clubbing of baby seals, illegal whaling and killing of dolphins and a few other acts we humans are guilty of. But have we really SEEN it with our own eyes?

More recently, some people I know (and you probably know who you are if you're reading this, but please don't take this the wrong way) have talked about buying expensive top brand leather goods.

Hey, its your money to spend and I won't judge you on your choice of material possessions. But please stop to think where those leather goods come from?

No, they did not fall off the animal...

Animals are purposely killed or stripped alive for those luxurious pieces of items you wish to parade yourself in.

WHOSE SKIN ARE YOU IN?
another official video clip by PETA just skims the surface of the multimillion dollar industry.

So now we know, that leather does not only involve cruelty to animals but also pollutes the earth.

Do you really need that expensive leather bag? purse? jacket? shoes? belt?

These issues may not directly affect you, but it does make one think...of all the products you've purchased. The waste you've disposed, the effect of just one person on this planet times the billions of other earth inhabitants.

I admit, I own a leather jacket bought in Florence, Italy during my Contiki tour in 2002. Back then, I didn't know any better. I was young, ignorant and blissfully unaware of the origins of my really gorgeous, form fitting, soft black, biker-style leather jacket I purchased at a bargained price of 150 euros. All I knew was, OH WOW, I HAVE A LEATHER JACKET! THAT'S SO TOTALLY COOL! (and its been hanging in my closet ever since I moved back to Penang in 2004).

SO TOTALLY COOL a poor cow had to die to have its skin hanging redundant in my CLOSET?

SO TOTALLY COOL the amount of CHEMICALS used to treat and colour the leather is now clogging up part of our planet?

Yea, I didn't know any better.

BUT NOW I DO.

Everytime I want to buy something, I always think of the effect it has on our home, Earth.

I'm proud to say I don't own any other leather items.
And would never even dream of owning a fur coat.

I really don't see anything wrong with using synthetic products.

You might say that God created man and animals and all things on earth for us to use.

Yes, back then early man did not have the brain capacity to make any other materials to keep warm. They had to kill to survive. But they only used what was necessary. They did not kill for sport or luxury.

Now, we've advance to a stage where we really don't need to be chopping down trees to build our houses.

We don't need to skin animal fur to keep warm.

God gave us the skills and brain power to evolve, exist and subsist AND co-exist with the other beings on this planet.

"THOU SHALL NOT KILL"

does not only apply to mankind.

It applies to all living beings.

Did you know that there are enough nutrients in vegetables and plants to keep us as healthy if not healthier than consuming meat?

Not, I'm not a vegetarian.
But I'm slowly cutting down on meat.
I'll get there one day.

But call me a hypocrite, I just coloured my hair. And I'm sure the chemicals would take a long time if ever to breakdown.

I will try harder.

WILL YOU?

An Easier Way to "FLY"

from Penang to KL that is...

We all know how much of a hassle it is...to get to-from the Airports.

Especially for someone who lives on the "other side of the Island"...
and not to mention our state-of-the-art KLIA airport which is located a bit too ridiculously far out of KL city than is necessary (although there are airport shuttle liners running almost every hour, the journey to the airport from KL Sentral would take AT LEAST an hour @ RM10 per trip, lets not even begin to talk about taking the airport taxis/limos)

Then you have to factor in the 1 or 2 hour check-in time before your flight..etc...yes, even if you are lucky enough to snag a Zero fare ticket... its not that convenient after all!

Although I am a fan of the other low-cost airline, Fireflyz, I seldom find their ticket prices to be as affordable as they'd like to claim. A return ticket might set you back almost RM300! Although Subang airport is definitely more convenient in terms of location.

However, if you arrive very late at night (@ Subang), it might be a bit dark and if you're not lucky, you might need to wait at least 15-30 mins for a taxi. I once paid around RM25 for a ride to my friend's condo in Kelana Jaya! I thought it was a bit absurd, as it wasn't that far away.

So back to the topic at hand.

From my sponsored flight to KL for an interview, I realised that I took the same, if not a longer amount of time flying down than taking a coach!

My flight was at 8.40pm from Penang, so I had to leave my house around 6.30pm to get to the airport in time to check in one hour before. Yes, weekday peak hour traffic in Penang is bad (but not as bad as KL of course!)

We landed in KL at 9.35pm and after navigating my way around KLIA and getting to the bus depot, the only airport shuttle liner available was going to leave for KL Sentral at 10.30pm. It took more than an hour to get to KL Sentral, so I arrived just before midnight. (granted it was Deepavali eve, and KL Sentral is at Brickfields, so yea).

So in conclusion, the whole journey from PG to KL took me about 5+ hours (4+ if you minus the journey from my house).

Just the week before that, I took a coach from Sg. Nibong (which is also almost 9km before the airport - from where i'm coming from) at 6.30pm and arrived Pudu, KL at 11.30pm. Thats a total of around 6hrs (5 if u minus the journey from my house).
But it only cost me RM35 for the whole journey.

I'd say taking a coach is more time & cost effective.

Ok, now to the 2 coaches I had the pleasure of experiencing from my last trip down to KL (last weekend).

After some online research, I found SUASANA EDARAN (TopClass).
A rival company to AEROLINE
(which I decided to take for my journey back to Penang due to their rigid time schedule).

For almost exactly the same price, both offered comfy seats, personal on-board entertainment, food & beverages served by their steward/stewardess.

Suasana Edaran's schedule from Penang to KL are as follows:-

Penang to Kuala Lumpur

Adult - MYR 55.00
Children - MYR 35.00
  • 9.30 a.m
  • 11.30 a.m
  • 3.30 p.m
  • 6.30 p.m

Kuala Lumpur to Penang

Adult - MYR 55.00
Children - MYR 35.00

  • 9.30 a.m
  • 11.30 a.m
  • 3.30 p.m
  • 7.30 p.m

They also have KL to Singapore routes.

I made a call to the Suasana Edaran ticketing counter (Sg. Nibong terminal) and the friendly lady employee agreed to save me a single seat that I could pick up at my own convenience before the departure.

When I got there (well ahead of time), I found she had reserved the seat for me with my name on the ticket!

The coach was almost 80% full. We left right on time at 6.30pm and were warmly greeted by the steward, introducing himself, the driver and letting us know the estimated time of arrival in KL. He then proceeded to hand-out bottles of mineral water and headsets for our personalized on-board entertainment.

Unfortunately, my seat was almost to the end of the coach and when he got to me, he did not have enough headsets to go round. That was okay, as I brought along my own for my mp3 player. (yes i have my FitnessFirst headset coz the small earphones hurt my tiny ears!). I think some of the passengers up front must have opted to snooze instead and give up their headsets, as he later brought more headsets for the people behind me.

Top Deck

Bottom Deck

As we were on the Penang Bridge, he served our packed meal of tomato rice and a piece of fried chicken, which was followed by hot tea. I instantly devoured mine as I was dying of hunger!

I must say, it tasted pretty decent.

But then again, don't take my word for it, as I quite enjoy airline food as well! Hehe! I'm very easy to please.

There were 4 movies to choose from; 300, Narnia-Prince Caspian, Spiderman and (some cartoon i forgot). I opted for 300, as I've been putting off watching it for..ever and also the other movies really didn't interest me at all. I lost interest after 5 mins the first time i tried to watch 300, a year ago.

The movie quality was great!

There are also console games available..but I didn't try them out.

Apparently the seats were massage chairs as well...but after pressing a few buttons, nothing happened..so I guess the company decided to do away with it for some reason or other.
Too bad really. That would have been a treat!

Check out their Facilities on Board here.

We stopped at a reststop for 10mins after about 2+ hours.

I tried to take a nap after the movie...but I guess I just couldn't fall asleep. But that's just me.

The steward said the journey would take approx. 5 hours. But we arrive in KL just a little after 10.30pm. The coach stopped at a bus stop at Kota Raya (right opposite the entrace of Petaling street). Which was less crowded than Pudu itself. Easier for pickups too.

Journey Back

As for Aeroline, I took the 3.00pm coach from Corus Hotel right in the heart of KL city.

The downside of not booking online and purchasing the ticket just prior to the journey is that you don't get a Subway sandwich for your meal. I had to settle for a bowl of maggi (chicken & shiitake mushroom flavour - which was a treat for me coz i LOVE maggi mee!! - see, easy to please). Of course they would inform you when you purchase your ticket at the counter, as they would need ample time to make the meal orders with Subway. Totally understandable.

They also provide a pillow, blanket, a headset, a bottle of mineral water and hot beverages with your meals, which you can take at your own convenience (i had to wake the poor steward up to get my meal as i wasn't hungry yet when he was serving earlier).

I got the front seat (like the friggin very front 2 feet away from the windscreen, front!)..yes..the kiasuness..feel it. As I didn't get to go up to Genting Highland to get my adrenaline rush (from the rollercoasters la..i dun gamble), I decided to get some kick out of this ride instead hahah!!)

There was a big flat screen tv on the left side (opp from my seat), which was still ok for where I was at but i just had to turn my head a bit to watch the movies. No, you don't get to choose the movie...its at the whim and fancy of the steward. Luckily he chose Wolverine (yarmeeh!) followed by Bride Wars, then an episode of Friends.

There is a toilet on-board the coach downstairs, at the lounge (about 5 sofa seats) which were unfortunately hogged by a whole family (some people can be so selfish) all the way from KL - PG. The toilet was tiny but clean, which served its purpose.

The coach did stop at a petrol station for a 10min break & prolly for the No. 2's. As the steward told us that the toilet on-board was "for light usage only, I repeat, for Light Usage Only (for heavensake if u poo in it i will kill u, srsly!)".

I hardly felt the time go by as I was so engrossed with the movies and in no time we arrived Penang! That was one of the smoothest journey I have EVER had from KL-PG.

In conclusion, (omg, wht the hell? this isn't an essay!), I would definitely recommend both these coaches for travels from Pg-KL and vice versa and am planning to take either one down again for my next trip to KL next weekend!

Gosh, I should be paid for this promo review.

Stay tuned for my next post about Good Food in Ampang!
